Most commonly asked client questions answered

Can I go from dark to light in one sitting?

Depending on what the ‘ dark’ is… YES! If your hair is naturally dark we can lighten it up to 8 shades in one sitting; however, if you have dark ‘coloured’ hair this is a more delicate process. If the dark coloured hair has been done by a professional there is no banding or overlapping of colour, which means hair is in an even porosity state and your hair will have a better chance of lifting evenly along the hair shaft. We also have the ability to adjust the developer to compensate this. If your hair is naturally dark we have the choice of using either powder lightener or colour to lighten your hair.

If you have used boxed colour (which is a one size fits all mixture) or have coloured it yourself, the chances of this lifting out evenly is minimal. The reason for this is overlapping of colour with your application, as this dramatically alters the porosity and condition of your hair.

Box colour has only one developer (which is either designed to deposit or give up to a  2 level lift) in the box so again, depending on the dark shade you start with will depend on your finished result. Colour will NOT lift colour so no amount of applications or finger crossing will take you blonde. Sorry

I don’t want/need a toner today thanks…

If you have selected a ‘shade’ of blonde , just lifting your hair may not give you the desired shade you want. A toner does just that. Once your hair has been powder lightened, the toners job is to colour correct or tone your hair to your desired shade. Lightener will not take you beige, or creamy or ash – it simply lightens exposing your underlining colour pigment so if you choose to not tone, you are left with a raw blonde.

A toner also contains agents that close the cuticle (the outer layer to your hair) and ensures a smoother shinier result. While a toner is an added extra, it is highly recommended by professionals. The only time you won’t need a toner is if we have lifted your hair with colour as this lifts a deposits your desired shade in one application. This is only available on natural hair.

Can I have colour and cut and get out in under 2 hours?

In an ideal world, sure! So long as you want an all over colour (global) and just a trim. Please allow extra time to be transformed, this is time for YOU to be pampered and take some time for yourself. You deserve it!

Can I get a colour today with my cut?

We will certainly accommodate you where we can, however we book our guests back to back, in times allocated to each service. This accounts for time for consultation, application, technical services to develop or process, hair shampooed and massaged, hair cut and styled to your desired shape so to ‘find’ additional space is paramount to this happening.

Call us first as we may adjust the appointment time to allow our colourist to apply your colour and be booked back at your original time for your stylist to cut.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t blow dry it today to save money, is that okay?

We are a full service salon and we will blow dry your hair so you can see your colour when it is dry and in its ‘natural’ state. We do NOT send you out with wet hair as you cannot determine your hair colour or the shape of your cut unless it has been dried and styled for you. This is a great time to have a workshop for how to do this yourself at home.

Can you squeeze in a …….. today with my service?

Please see question 3 answer. If we have the time free we can do this, however everyone seems time poor in today’s world and if we run behind to accommodate you it puts the rest of our day behind. The same goes with being late to your appointment.

I always love what you do, no need to ask all those questions at the start.

A consultation is paramount and compulsory as hair and life changes from month to month. Our recommendations are based on the answers you give us. Your hair is affected by environmental and seasonal change, stress and or hormonal changes, your lifestyle, and your hair’s growth cycle (of which we all have 7 cycles). Please be honest with your answers, we can tell the products you are using, if you have cut your hair yourself and if your hair is coloured. We ask these questions to ensure our choice is going to give you the desired result. We will also suggest new ideas and ways to wear your hair.

When you are happiest, we are happy too!

I use a shampoo for coloured hair from the supermarket ,- is that ok?

We guarantee our workmanship provided you are using the products we recommend. Supermarket shampoo is designed to look after supermarket boxed colour. The marketing is very clever and will contain small amounts of the active ingredients found in professional products. This is NOT a have, nor are you being conned.

If you invest in beautiful colour then you will need to care for it to ensure beautiful, optimal hair condition. After all, if you spent money on a jacket that instructed you to dry clean only, would you pop it in the wash with your jeans and expect it to look and feel the same?
