So, we have all heard that once you hit a certain age, we women shouldn’t have hair longer than our shoulders, right? Is this correct, does it still stand, do we want to believe this myth?

Well it’s like this – the length of your hair is less relevant than the style and the colour you wear it with.

What I mean by this is if it’s one length, to the waist, naturally grey, and parted down the middle then unless you are auditioning for the role of Morticia Adams, perhaps its not the style you should be rocking.

Having your hair go grey often means the texture of your hair has changed – if so, having your grey hair below shoulders with an undone shape may actually age you. However, having it shaped around your face with graduation and long layers will add body and shape to your everyday style. The ‘bob’ and variations of this are gorgeous on anyone, as it adds body and volume to fine hair, texture to naturally wavy hair and class to those of you on the go!

Now grey is HUGE at the moment with variations on shades of lilac, silver and blue. Forget your grandma’s blue rinse – I mean a sexy, shiny, tussled mane of beautifully toned hair!

Natural and long just does not cut it unless you are one of the chosen few that was born a blonde and have naturally gone that gorgeous white evenly and all over. I can think of several of our lucky ladies that we see in the salon, however all of them wear their hair styled and have their haircut maintained regularly with treatments and shaping.

Colour in various techniques can add thickness to your hair when strategically placed in your style. It can also reduce bulk in your style in the same way light colours can blend into skin tone. We call it clever colour, as it can also make skin glow and eye colours pop!

If you are thinking of growing out your colour or lifting your tint lighter, please come in and see us as we can make this transition easier for you.

The bottom line is – hair is there to protect our scalp from environmental (sun, rain and wind), as well as behaviour practices (blow drying and heated tools) both artificially and naturally. Just like how a finger print it is exclusively yours, with variations for everyone on the porosity, the texture, the density and the elasticity.

So the style that’s perfect for you is the one that makes you feel fabulous. The hair style and colour that others comment on – wow.
